Bean Profile
In 2016, Genuine Origin created the La Morena program to provide female coffee growers access to the global supply chain and address gender inequality in coffee farming. Currently, over 800 women farmers span the coffee-growing regions of Huehuetenango and Baja Verapaz; Baja Verapaz is one of Guatemala’s twenty-two departments. Within this central department is the municipality of Cubulco. Cubulco has a rich cultural heritage; the population, mainly comprised of indigenous people, continues to practice customs passed down through generations. The tropical climate, high elevation, and healthy waterways make Cubulco an ideal location for coffee cultivation.
