Bean Profile
Our Balus Kopi is grown in Papua New Guinea’s Simbai area, just over the Bismarck Range bordering the Western Highlands Province and Sepik Province. “Balus Kopi” is Tok Pisin (the native language of PNG) for “airplane coffee.” Why “airplane coffee?” All coffee from Simbai is transported via plane, and getting Balus Kopi is not easy: farmers bring their coffee to a small airstrip — some farmers have a day’s journey. When enough coffee is gathered for a full plane-load, a flight is chartered to Mt. Hagen where it gains access to the global supply chain.
